Houses and churches literally centuries old, historical harbours, shopping boulevards, vast meadows, mills and canals in Amsterdam. Within a 20 km radius, there is something for everybody. Set out below are a number of popular destinations, but in fact all of Waterland is well worth your while!

Volendam

Tourists from all over the world have first-hand experience.
Volendam, the beautiful fishing village at Lake IJssel, with its traditional costume, music and fish. Little houses on the Doolhof opposite the harbour, souvenir shops opened 7 days a week.
You can also have your picture taken in traditional costume. For watersports lovers, Volendam is the ideal venue for sailing or wind surfing.
You would like to be on the water, but not exert yourself? The Marken Express will take you by boat to Marken. From April until the end of October, it departs from Volendam Harbour each half hour.
A visit to the windmill of Volendam will complete your visit. Outside the village, you can visit cheese farms and wooden shoe workshops.
Diamond-cutting, an Amsterdam craft, but also to be seen in Volendam. Please do not forget to visit our museum! Old fishing interiors, traditional costume and, unique in the world, the Cigar-Band house.
As you see, Volendam has many things to offer for a nice day or a longer stay.

Edam

If you walk along the dike to the north, then you will be in Edam within 15 minutes.
In addition to a wealth of historical monuments, Edam offers a choice of sights and it pays to join an organised city tour to really get to know this cheese town.
A city with a rich history of shipyards, wood trade, trade and an administrative city centre of old.

Annual events include: the cheese market, Water Day, the art-in-home route and many other items. Edam is a five-star location and is well worth making a detour, even a 'must' as part of your visit to the Netherlands.

Monnickendam

At less than 5 minutes by car from Volendam lies the historical town of Monnickendam.
This old town at Lake IJssel is part of the municipality of Waterland. Waterland was once a foreland area at the edge of the Zuiderzee. Around the year 1000, a start was made with the reclaiming of Waterland. In the 17th century, this area prospered, especially caused by the role of Monnickendam as a seaport. This harbour has now become a marina for pleasure boats. The city has many monuments from the 17th and 18th century, such as the City Hall and the Waegh, and a number of other 16th century buildings such as the Speeltoren. The St. Nicolaas church even dates from the 15th century. When the ponds and canals are covered with ice, Waterland draws many ice-skating fans.

Amsterdam

Metropolis Amsterdam is within 20 km from Hotel Spaander.
Amsterdam has many different faces. Everybody knows the 165 romantic canals with their 1281 bridges, the over 600,000 bicycles, the nightlife and the flower market. But in addition to that, the city offers many other sights, excellent shopping opportunities and many different exhibitions in 50 museums. Each day, you have a choice of many concerts and theatre performances. Amsterdam has it all!
Specially recommended: a round trip through the canals, and a visit to the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum (Rembrandt van Rijn).
